Early Life
Mahmudul Hasan Joy hails from the West Larua village of Faridganj sub-district in the Chandpur district. He is the third of four children of Abdul Barek and Hasina Begum. His cricketing journey began at the Clemon Chandpur cricket academy. In 2014, he took a significant step forward by getting admitted to the prestigious Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan.
Youth and Domestic Career
In December 2019, Mahmudul was selected to represent Bangladesh in the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. In second Super League semi-final of the tournament, he played a pivotal role in Bangladesh’s six-wicket victory against New Zealand and scored a memorable century.
His journey in senior cricket continued to evolve as he made his Twenty20 debut on 6 December 2020, representing Gazi Group Chattogram in the 2020–21 Bangabandhu T20 Cup. In February 2021, he received another opportunity to showcase his skills when he was selected for the Bangladesh Emerging squad during their home series against the Ireland Wolves. Mahmudul’s first-class debut came on 26 February 2021, as part of the Bangladesh Emerging team, once again demonstrating his potential.
International Career
November 2021 marked a significant milestone in Mahmudul’s career when he was named in Bangladesh’s Test squad for their series against Pakistan. This was the beginning of his journey in the longest format of the game. On 4 December 2021, Mahmudul made his Test debut for Bangladesh against Pakistan, a momentous occasion for any cricketer. His impact was felt early in his international career when, in January 2022, he scored his first Test fifty against New Zealand during the first match of the series.
However, Mahmudul faced a setback due to a finger injury, which he sustained on the fourth day of the first Test match against New Zealand.
In February 2022, Mahmudul’s talents were recognized once again when he was named in Bangladesh’s One Day International (ODI) squad for their series against Afghanistan. His versatility as a cricketer was further emphasized when, in March 2022, he was selected in Bangladesh’s ODI squad for their series against South Africa.
April 2022 brought a significant achievement for Mahmudul Hasan Joy when he scored his first century in Test cricket during a match against South Africa.
