Early Days

Born on April 3, 1994, Taskin Ahmed Tazim started his cricketing journey in Abahani playground on January 10, 2007. After under-15 and under-17 levels, he also get a spot on the Bangladesh national under-19 cricket team.

Taskin made his first-class debut for Dhaka Metropolis in October 2011 against Barisal Division, marking the beginning of his domestic career. In 2012 ICC Under-19 World Cup, he emerged as Bangladesh’s highest wicket-taker, claiming 11 wickets.

In the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), he played for various franchises, including Chittagong Kings and Chittagong Vikings. Taskin’s exceptional bowling figures of 4/31 against Duronto Rajshahi in a BPL match earned him the Man of the Match title.

International Debut

Taskin Ahmed’s journey into the international cricket arena was a result of fate meeting opportunity. He made his T20I debut on April 1, 2014, and announced his arrival by taking the wicket of Glenn Maxwell.

He made a history by taking five wickets against India in his debut ODI. Taskin Ahmed became the first Bangladeshi bowler to achieve this remarkable feat on his ODI debut.

His journey in the longest format of the game began on January 12, 2017, when he made his Test debut against New Zealand, securing his maiden Test wicket by dismissing Kane Williamson.

Cricket World Cup Hero

Taskin was selected in Bangladesh’s squad for the 2015 Cricket World Cup. In the group stage of the World Cup, he took important wickets against Afghanistan, Scotland, and England. His contributions helped Bangladesh qualify for the quarter-finals, where they faced India in Melbourne. Taskin again did well in the quarter-final match and took 3 wickets. This made him highest wicket-taker for Bangladesh in the World Cup.

One of the most memorable moments of that World Cup was the “Chest-bump” celebration between Taskin and Mashrafe after taking a wicket.

Rise and Setbacks

Taskin’s career continued to rise as he played a crucial role in victories against Pakistan in April 2015 and India in June 2015.

However, in 2016, Taskin faced a setback when he was suspended from bowling in international cricket due to an illegal action bowled during the ICC World Twenty20.

 He made a remarkable comeback to international cricket in June 2021 when he was named in the Bangladesh squad across all formats for their tour to Zimbabwe.

In a Test match against Zimbabwe, Taskin scored 75 runs and formed a partnership of 191 runs with Mahmudullah, which was the second-highest ninth-wicket partnership in Test cricket.

T20 World Cup Excellence

Taskin’s excellence extended to T20 cricket. In the 2022 T20 World Cup, he became Bangladesh’s most prolific wicket-taker in the tournament, taking eight wickets in five matches.

Recent Achievements

In March 2023, during a T20 series against Ireland, Taskin’s bowling brilliance forced the visitors to slow down with his three-wicket burst in the fourth over. He eventually claimed four wickets for just 16 runs, achieving his career-best T20I figures.

Bowling Speed and Personal Life

Taskin Ahmed is renowned as Bangladesh’s fastest bowler. During the 2021 T-20 World Cup, he clocked speeds of 150+ km/h, solidifying his status as the quickest in the country’s history.

Off the field, Taskin completed his SSC from King Khaled Institute and HSC from Stamford College before pursuing higher education at the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB).

In November 2017, Taskin married his childhood friend Sayeda Rabeya Nayeem. They welcomed their first child, Tashfeen Ahmed Rihan, on September 30, 2018.
